I received a chapbook from Sam Pink in the mail. I felt excited when I saw the envelope that had been slipped under my front door. I had felt overwhelmed about things and was walking out of my apartment to go to work then saw the envelope and remembered that I had asked Sam Pink for a chapbook. He had followed through. It is handmade. It is titled “Extreme Depression”.

The front cover has a drawing of a luchador or something. The back cover has “by Sam Pink” written in large cursive writing. Inside is written “for matthew donahoo 2011”. I felt good while reading that.

There are five things from “I Am Going To Clone Myself Then Kill The Clone And Eat It.”, three things from “Frowns Need Friends Too”, and two things from “Hurt Others”. I know that because it is written on the last page of the book. The first two books are rare, I think. I don’t think “I Am Going To Clone Myself…” is available anywhere. On Amazon there is one copy of “Frowns Need Friends Too” and it is being sold for ~$2500.

All of the things in the book are handwritten. Seems like he used a dull pencil to write them. It looks good.

I thought it was funny and sincere. I felt interested while reading all of it. I think I felt most interested in reading the last sentence of “Ugandan Hooker”, the last paragraph of “I Am The Best Thing Ever Introduced To The Material World”, and all of “Bees”. I felt empathetic while reading “Bees”. Sam Pink had a roommate he never talked to. I have a roommate I never talk to. My roommate is a bro who likes Family Guy and Call of Duty. Sam Pink’s roommate was an Indian Phd student who liked pizza.

I think Sam Pink is willing to make chapbooks if you ask him to and pay him money. He said that on his blog a while ago. I am not sure if he is still willing to do that. His email is sampinkisalive [at] gmail [dot] com.
